Oral Cancer

Innocent-looking spots in your mouth could actually be signs of oral cancer. As with other types of cancer, early detection is crucial for successful treatment. If you are older than 40, or have ever smoked or chewed tobacco, regular oral cancer screenings are essential. Oral cancer screenings are performed during the comprehensive oral examination.

We screen for cancerous cells using ViziLite technology, a fast, non-invasive way for us to see abnormal cells by shining a specially-designed light into your mouth. Ask us if annual ViziLite screenings are recommended for you.

We use OralCDx to take biopsies of questionable spots in your mouth. The hand-held OralCDx brush gently scrapes the suspicious lesion, collecting a sample of cells. We send this sample to the OralCDx laboratory where it undergoes a computerized analysis to determine if the cells are cancerous and whether they are malignant or benign.
